Sunday Cruise of the Week #3

Welcome everyone!

Welcome to the third edition of Cruise of the Week! To view the second one, click here.

Carnival Dream
The Dream was the lines biggest and most innovative ship the line has had when it was introduced on September 21, 2009 for her maiden voyage. With her 130,000 gross tons, 1,004 ft. length, and 14 decks, she is a considerably large vessel. The Dream can also hold 3,652 passengers and 1,396 crew members.

The Dream just got her official first sister called the Carnival Magic on May 1, 2011. To read some thoughts about the Magic click here. The Dream and Magic will be getting another sister in 2012 which will be named the Carnival Breeze.

The ship offers an array of entertainment options that will keep you excited for the whole trip! The ship has 6 magnificent slides that are in the Carnival WaterWorks. I have been on this ship and let me tell you, you will have a blast. The laser show on the Lido deck is fantastic as well as the Dancing in the Streets show in the main theater.

New to the line is the Promenade deck's new walkway that wraps around the entire ship. This feature was awesome to walk around at night and was a very relaxing place to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main pool's. Among other new and innovative features on the ship were a few new classes of cabins including the Cove Balcony and the Deluxe Ocean View Suites.

Also something to note is that many past Carnival passengers that have been on this ship enjoy the toned down decor of the ship. The ship incorporates elegance but still gives the classic Carnival feel you may love.

Overall, this ship is a very good choice for any type of family. To learn more and book a cruise on this ship click here. As someone who has been on the ship, I suggest it.

Thanks for reading this and please leave a comment on your thoughts about the ship! Remember to spread the word about this new blog! Thanks.

Norwegian Dawn & Radiance of the Seas get revamped!

Welcome everyone!

Two major cruise lines, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian have sent a ship into dry dock for extensive rehab.

Norwegian Dawn
The 2,224 passenger ship has entered it's dry-dock for a overhaul before entering service from Boston for seven-day cruises to Bermuda. The ship will be getting more than 50 new cabins and a new Brazilian steakhouse called Churrascaria that will take the place of Salsa.

Among some other changes is the location changes being made to the Spinnaker Lounge, Blue Lagoon restaurant, gift shop, and the art and photo gallery.

Also the new cabins mentioned above will include new Deluxe Owner Suites, Family Suites, Family Suite w/ Balcony, & inside cabins. All cabins (including crew cabins) will gain upgraded flat screen TV's.

The casino will be getting a complete floor to ceiling overhaul, as well as Kid's Crew and Teen Club areas. The line is also freshening up some other areas such as the Atrium with new Java Cafe furniture.

Radiance of the Seas
Royal Caribbean's 2,114 passenger ship has entered its 22 day long overhaul in a shipyard in Victoria, B.C. There will be many new restaurants as well as the lines first singles cabins.

Some of the popular restaurants on the lines new Allure of the Seas will be featured in this ship that include Giovanni's Table, Samba Grill, Park Cafe, and Boardwalk Dog House. Additions other than the new restaurants include a new nursery, and new interactive TV's in every cabin.

The overhaul of this ship is one of five this year as the line pours money into revamping some of it's ships in favor of buying new ships.

The ship will re-enter service in Vancouver, B.C. with voyages to Alaska. The ship will then reposition in Sydney, Australia in November.

What do you think about these ships? Have you been on either one of them? Please leave a comment and spread the word about this new blog! We would love to see your return. Thanks again!

Carnival Dream to be featured in Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: Chip-Wrecked

Welcome everyone!

The new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie is set to be released on December 16, 2011. The movie was filmed on the Carnival Dream and was shot on the January 22, 2011 trip with stops to Cozumel, Belize, Honduras, and Costa Maya.

Filming mostly took place on the upper decks of the ship and recreational areas in which the island stops provided a tropical background.

The teaser was released earlier this year along with a plot.  "On vacation aboard a luxury cruise ship, Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor are up to their usual antics, turning the ship into their personal playground, until they become ‘chipwrecked’ on a desert island. As Dave Seville frantically searches for his AWOL charges, the ‘Munks and Chipettes do what they do best – sing, dance and wreak havoc. But they’re in for a surprise when they embark on an island adventure with their new friend, a castaway who’s more than a match for The Chipmunks and The Chipettes.”

Want to see a movie trailer? Don't expect to find one until later this year, possibly before the screenings of "Kung Fu Panda 2."

Sunday Cruise of the Week #2

Welcome everyone!

Welcome to the second edition of Cruise of the Week! To view the first one, click here.

Costa Pacifica
The Costa Pacifica is the lines 3rd ship in the Concordia Class. The ship was ordered on December 14, 2005 and was handed over on May 29, 2009. The ship cost $500 million Euros or $705 million USD. The ship has a tonnage of 114,500 GT and a length of 952 ft. There are 14 passenger decks but there is an actual total of 17.

If you have seen a Costa ship before, you might think that they look identical to Carnival's ships hence why I am doing a non-American line. Costa is actually owned by Carnival and it's ships are modeled after them. The Concordia Class which this ship belongs to is actually identical to the Carnival Splendor.

(Photo © Ruí Pais)
The ship offers 1,504 staterooms, 5 restaurants, 13 bars & lounges, 4 pools, and also boasts an onboard recording studio.

To book your cruise on this awesome ship click here. Remember it is Carnival's Spanish line

What do you think of this cool ship?! I think it would be fun to take a European cruise on this ship sometime. Please comment and spread the word about this new blog! Thanks again and stay tuned for next's weeks Cruise of the Week!

Titanic 3-D coming in April of 2012

Welcome everyone!

Most of you have all seen the very popular and emotional movie Titanic. The blockbuster hit based on a true story will be re-released in theaters on April 6th of 2012 marking the 100th anniversary of the accident.

James Cameron is becoming known for high quality 3-D movies including his Avatar movie that earned $2.8 Billion in sales which earns the spot for highest grossing film in history. Now here comes Titanic again which is already the second highest grossing film in the world.

The film is personally one of my favorites (actually my top favorite movies have to deal with cruise ships!) and I can't wait to see it in 3-D. I am also excited to see it in the theater as I have only gotten the chance to see it at home.

What do you all think?! I bet it will take a long time to transform this movie into 3-D. Please leave a comment and spread the word about this new blog! Remember to follow our twitter @AmericanCruises.

Disney Fantasy to have new features!

Welcome everyone!

Have you been on the Disney Dream yet? The 130,000 gross ton ship will be getting her sister ship in early 2012 with a few new features! The ship will be the exact same exterior and layout wise but it will almost seem like a new ship when walking around inside.

Disney executive Joe Lanzisero says, "We don't like to repeat ourselves, we have a very loyal fan base, and we want to give them a reason to experience both ships." Some of the new things planned for Disney's latest ship is different themed restaurants, a new Atrium look, different bars at the adult entertainment district that include, La Piazza at Europa, O'Gill's Pub at Europa, Ooh La La at Europa, Skyline at Europa, and The Tube at Europa.

Photo Tour of the Fantasy
If you would like to take a photo tour/illustrations of some of the new areas that will be on the Fantasy click here.

There will also be new shows to give the cruise line a variety of entertainment. There will also be a new salon called Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where young children can get a Princess or Pirate makeover and have the chance to buy costumes, hair, nails, makeup, etc.

The maiden voyage for the Fantasy is to take place on March 31, 2010 out Port Canaveral. The ship will be sailing rounds of 7-night voyages alternating between the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Don't worry, the ship will be stopping at it's private island, Castaway Cay in the Bahamas every trip!

Thumbs up for the Carnival Magic!

Welcome everyone!

Have you heard about the new Carnival Magic?! If not you have been under a rock! The new $740 million dollar ship boasts 130,000 gross tons with a length of just over 1,000 ft.

The ship has already made its big debut in Europe and won't be coming to America until later this year but that hasn't stopped a lot of Americans from going out to explore there favorite American cruise line! So far, the Magic has been a huge hit!

This is a sister ship to the Carnival Dream but it does have it's differences. For instance there are 3 new things that you will most likely love about the new ship including a few others not mentioned.

1. The new Carnival WaterWorks. The Magic slides are slightly different than the Dream in that they have a new layout, translucent pieces, and different colors. The WaterWorks also has a fun 300-gallon dump bucket in a "jungle gym" type area.

2. RedFrog Pub. The new bar/lounge area themed to the Bahamas/Caribbean seems to be a huge success! During a recent cruise, the new Carnival branded beer, ThirstyFrog Red sold out! The space is a great place to chat with friends and family before going to your evening dinner or maybe even after!

3. SportSquare. This new area takes up a huge chunk of the top deck but offers a few new experiences you won't find on any other ship. The cruise industry first, a suspended ropes course now wraps around the fun 2-story putt putt course.

Interested in this new innovative ship? Take a photo tour here. I really hope to go on this ship sometime in the future as I recently got off the Carnival Dream and loved it! Please spread the word about this new blog! Thanks.

New Cruise Hotspot. China!

Welcome everyone!!

So you thought Europe was the new cruise hotspot. Wrong. Well, kind of. According to this article, China's cruise market is growing and at a fast pace.

We all know China and it's economy are growing extremely fast which also means more money in their pocket. As the middle class grows, they are turning to cruising as there new vacation choice! According to many reports, China's cruise terminals are already some of the best in the world.

Could you imagine leaving Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour (pictured above) at night time while on the top deck of your favorite American cruise line looking at one of the coolest skylines in the world?! Excited about exploring Asia on a new and innovative ship such as Carnival's Dream Class or Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class? Good luck. Cruising is still in it's infancy here and you might not see newer ships for awhile.

According to USA Today, There were 223 international cruise ship sailings in China for 2010. "The social benefits are more important than the economic returns, as we want to raise our city's image to both travelers and investors," says Ning Fang, office director of the Tianjin port.

Dou Wentong, a department manager for China International Travel Service says, "A cruise is a new kind of experience for most Chinese people, but it's very relaxing, as other people can't reach you at sea."

Princess and Royal Caribbean have already shown a presence in China which is good if you would like to start exploring now. I think a cruise to China/Asia would be awesome! The culture experience and possible excursions are endless! Keep watching American cruisers, visitors on cruise ships is expected to top 1 million by 2015 which could mean nicer and newer American ships.

What are your thoughts about a China/Asia cruise? I would love it! Leave your comments and remember to follow us on Twitter @AmericanCruises for daily updates!

MSC Opera breaks down in the Baltic Sea

Welcome everyone.

*Update: The ship has now resumed voyages and is operating normally. Read more about why the ship was detained by clicking here.

Cruise ship, MSC Opera carrying approximately 2000 passengers broke down in the Baltic Sea. The ship is being towed to a Swedish port after experiencing technical problems.

Tug boats were sent to the ship after electrical systems failed off the island of Gotland on Sunday morning. Because of the electrical problems, the engines had to be shut off.

The ship was on a 10 day sailing to Copenhagen, Helsinki, and St. Petersburg and was due to be back in port by Tuesday.

The line says that passengers are not being fed hot meals but are "being taken care of" and will receive flights home. Along with that passengers will also receive a credit voucher for the full value of their trip.

This sounds a lot like what happened on the Carnival Splendor a few months ago while on a trip in the Pacific ocean! Comment your thoughts please! Remember to spread the word about this new blog and we are on Twitter @AmericanCruises

Sunday Cruise of the Week #1!

Welcome everyone!

This is a new segment that I am introducing to my blog. Every Sunday, I will be choosing a ship from one of the major American Cruise Lines to feature here. There will usually be a picture and a description of the ship with fun facts you may not have known. Here's to the first one!

Disney Dream
The Disney Dream is Disney Cruise Lines newest and biggest ship. The ship was first ordered in February 22nd, 2007 and was built in Papenburg, Germany at the Meyer Werft shipyard and started its Maiden voyage on January 26, 2011 from Port Canaveral.

The Dream is much larger than its predecessors, Magic and Wonder in that it is bigger by approximately 40%. The Dream offers a cruise industry first, the "Aquaduck" which is a water coaster that wraps around the main pool deck with a small section that goes over sea. The Dream also has 1,250 staterooms and can accommodate 4,000 passengers and 1,458 crew members. The ship has 130,000 gross tons, a length of 1,115 feet, a beam of 125 feet, and 14 passenger decks.

The ship isn't only for kids. It offers many activities for the whole family or even just adults. There is an adult-only pool along with many adult-only bars and nightclubs. For teens, there is the clubs, Vibe and Edge. This ship is packed full of new and innovative features that are Disney exclusive such as the only line to offer fireworks at sea.

The company stuck to the traditional ocean liner look with the color-scheme and two funnels making the ship look elegant.

If you haven't heard the large Princess ship, Grand Princess has taken a massive overhaul during its latest dry dock. A few major changes have made the ship look and feel brand new. During the biggest overhaul in Princess Cruises history, the Grand Princess lost its iconic Skywalkers Nightclub due to fuel efficiency.

Among the many changes, Grand Princess acquired the signature Piazza-Style Atrium that has been popular on Princess's newest ships. The ship also boasts a revamped casino, shops, and art gallery as well as numerous enhancements to other public areas.

If your looking to sail this ship soon, you might want to look at flights to Europe as the ship is heading for a season of European cruises. Look below for a amazing before and after photos! Also please comment on your thoughts of the removal of Skywalkers!
